Insurance Corporation (GIC)
The corporation was up in 1973 by a special
Act of Parliament . It functions through four subsidiary operating companies to
provide insurance products to the industrial, commercial, financial and household
sectors. At present there are no private sector companies offering any insurance
products in India.
The
subsidiaries of GIC are :
National
Insurance Company
Incorporated in the year 1906 and a subsidiary of the
GIC, carries on general insurance business in India with its head office located
at Calcutta
New India Assurance Company
Formed in the year
1919,it is a subsidiary of the GIC carrying on general insurance business in India
with its head office at Mumbai
Oriental Insurance Company
Setup in the year 1947 as a subsidiary of the GIC to carry on general insurance
business in India. The head office is located in New Delhi

India Insurance Company
It is a subsidiary of the GIC carrying on general
insurance business in India with its head office at Chennai
